Carnaby Street Copyright?

Alarming news from Design Week that Westminster Council is looking to enforce its copyright over its iconic street signs.

That may mean if you want one of those ‘Carnaby Street’ tee shirts, or a Piccadilly Circus fridge magnet, you’ll have to act fast. The council’s officials will be out around the souvenir shops, and apparently can fine abusers of the copyright £5,000.

What next? Will the Queen want to copyright the Beefeaters and the Changing of the Guard? Or will our MPs decide that News at Ten will have to pay them royalties for featuring Big Ben?

Interesting…I believe in Egypt they tried to copyright the pyramids and the sphinx, although I didn’t follow that particular story through to its conclusion.
