4th of July at the British Museum

stars-stripes.jpgAmericans in London always organise some nice Independence Day celebrations. But this year the British Museum is helping out.

There will be lindy-hopping. There will be jazz. There will be American food. There will be American beer tasting!

It all coincides with the exhibition The American Scene, which shows prints from Hopper to Pollock. Festivities start at 630 in the evening in Room 24.

For the more studious, there’s a talk on collecting American prints at 1.15 in the afternoon in Room 90.

And the Great Court is open till nine in the evening with a mix of vigorous activites including basketball and American football.

And as usual with the BM, possibly London’s greatest bargain, admission is free.

It’s the expat American community’s 7th annual 4th of July Picnic, BBQ and Fireworks display!

Last year over 900 people turned up to our 6th annual 4th of July, American Independence Day, so we’ve upped the ante; This years event includes upscale and affordable BBQ available from Butcher and Grill & Bodeans.

As well as balloons, Red White and Blue bouncy castles and face painting for the kids there is set to be a massive, professional laser fireworks display complete with John Phillip Sousa pyromusical accompaniment! This is very much a family as well as adult event.

The event is free of charge all day and all are welcome, We meet in the fantastic grassy area in front of the Pump House Art Gallery, which is rented for the event and will have two fully stocked bars in operation as well as clean toilet facilities. There will be softball games and impromptu frisbee playing. Just bring a blanket and a bottled water!

The sun is set to be out until well past 9:30, but we’ll be ok rain or shine as The Pump House Art Gallery can house several hundred people and will have two fully stocked bars. Plus 4th of July actualy falls on a Saturday this year! If coming to the park after 6:00 pm please use the Chelsea Gate in the North East corner of the park: The park will remain specialy open just for our party!

    See you there!
