Warning! lost baggage!

According to latest reports, Terminal 5 at Heathrow is still losing huge amounts of passengers’ baggage.

More than 900 bags a day are going missing on transfer flights. That’s a one in twelve chance of losing your bags.

It’s not quite clear what has happened to the rate of missing baggage for flights terminating in London. But anecdotal evidence still suggests Heathrow is doing poorly compared to other airports.

And what’s clear is that British Airways is doing very poorly compared to other airlines.  The latest Association of European Airlines figures show it as the worst of the major European carriers for baggage loss.

What’s the answer?  Well, one friend of mine now flies with camera kit and underwear, and buys  whatever he needs when he gets there. The key to this is, I suppose, that he doesn’t need to wear a suit -  jeans and t shirts are cheap and available just about anywhere!

Meanwhile, travellers  who’re using T5 should be particularly careful not to put valuable items, or any items they need imminently, like medications, in checked baggage.
