Best UK cycling holidays for you and the family

We often forget the beauty that can be found right on our doorstep in Britain. Many of us can often miss out on just what the UK can offer, and what better way of doing this than getting out on our city bikes and enjoying some exercise along the way!

With that in mind, here are some great UK cycling holiday suggestions that you and your family or friends can enjoy.

Coast to coast trips – a coast to coast journey takes advantage of the National Cycle Network and takes you from the Irish Sea right the way across the country to the North Sea. This journey offers some of the most beautiful landscapes the North of England has to offer. Cycling along cycle paths and quiet country roads, this route takes in the Cumbrian countryside, the rugged scenery of the Pennines and the magnificent views of the Lake District.

Hadrian’s Wall – this trip takes you through history, travelling along the Old Roman Empire of Hadrian’s Wall. Cumbria and Northumberland are steeped in history, and all the family can also enjoy walking in the footsteps of Roman soldiers along the way. This is a slightly easier coast to coast journey, making full benefit of the beautiful countryside, river valleys and fantastic beaches.

Shropshire Lakes – this cycling holiday is perfect for the whole family, with routes along quiet little lanes with very little passing traffic. Take in the laidback lifestyle whilst you visit small glacial lakes all over the area and let the kids enjoy the wide range of wildlife. There are many pretty villages located in and around the Shropshire Plains that are perfect places for you to hop off your bike and explore.

Isle of Anglesey – the Isle of Anglesey has a lot to offer for a cycling holiday. With relatively flat terrain offering fantastic views over Snowdonia, it really is somewhere not to miss. Many areas of Anglesey are areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, from the high cliffs at South Stack to the beautiful Menai Strait estuary. There are also spectacular beaches to visit, as well as lighthouses and ancient monuments.

Lands’ End to John O’Groats – this journey isn’t for the faint hearted! Taking in the full length of Britain, cycling over 1,000 miles, this trip could take you and the family some time. Starting at Lands’ End and cycling along the wonderful Cornish coast, passing Dartmoor, you will then travel north through Hereford, making your way through the Yorkshire Dales and into stunning Scotland for the latter part of your journey. Enjoy the delights from Cornish pasties to Haggis, and everything in between!

Cycling holidays can be great fun for the whole family, but remember to choose a destination that suits all abilities and somewhere that will keep the whole family interested. Ensure all bicycles are in good working order for the journey you’re planning and make sure you take spare bike parts just in case! You can get ladies bike with basket if you are more on a stroll ride. Or if you wanted a more stylish bike, there are hybrid bicycles for sale that you can choose from.

Cyclists are some of the most vulnerable users of our roads, so it’s important that you are comfortable and confident in yours and your family’s cycling abilities. Enjoy your holiday but ensure you are safe.

If you are unfortunate enough to be involved in an accident whilst out cycling, you may be able to claim accident compensation. Talk to an experienced firm who can advise you on making a claim and help you through the whole process.
