If you’re an insomniac who’s coming to London before the 28th April, you might want to consider staying at the Andaz Hotel beside Liverpool Street Station.
The Andaz is a luxury hotel, part of the Hyatt chain, which takes a refreshingly different approach. One of the quirky features at the moment is a ‘reader in residence’. He’s like a writer in residence, but he reads.
Including bedtime stories, I suppose…
The reader in residence is Damian Barr, a writer and journalist. He always takes a book with him when he’s travelling - right now he’s staying at the Andaz to read to other people. And he’ll read whatever he thinks will do his customers good - from Georgette Heyer’s romances to Jake Arnott’s gangster novels.
If you’re not staying at the hotel, don’t miss the read-in on Sunday 27th, from 11 o’clock in Mildred, the hotel’s snug bar.
